Avatar was…wow.

I saw Avatar last night with my dad and my uncle and…let’s just say the movie left me speechless. Even though the 3D showing we’d came to see was sold out and we had to settle for the regular version, it was even more intense and action-packed then I’d imagined. I’m definitely not a movie person–books ftw–but this is the kind of movie I’d see any day. Beautifully done and complete with action, adventure, cool characters, and a far-fetched fantastic premise.
The plot, though predictable, was well thought out. The characters were memorable and interesting, though their names were hard to pronounce and difficult to remember. Then again, what sci-fi movie doesn’t have weird, unpronounceable names?
I also watched a documentary on how Avatar was filled prior to seeing the film. It explained that the actors did almost all of the stunts on green screens and that the animators melded the footage with computer-generated images, which resulted in the gorgeous, incredibly realistic images seen on the screen. No movie before has been filmed this way, so it’s a revolutionary film–and it truly is like nothing you’ve ever seen before. A few scenes were so beautifully and breathtakingly animated that the images themselves made me want to cry. It was almost like watching fine art move on a movie screen–totally and utterly entrancing.
If you can’t tell, I want to see this movie again. I totally recommend seeingĀ  it. ;)

(PS–I hope everyone had a nice Christmas!)
